Attack Damage, or AD, is one of the core offensive stats in League of Legends and determines how much physical damage a champion deals with each basic attack. Every champion begins the game with a base amount of AD that increases with levels, although certain champions have unique scaling patterns. Higher AD directly strengthens last hitting, early trading, and any actions that rely on repeated basic attacks.
AD is especially important because auto attacks cost no resources and scale with multiple offensive stats. Increasing AD improves the impact of effects tied to basic attacks, including critical strikes, on hit passives, and the value gained from higher AS. Champions who rely on constant attacking, such as marksmen, benefit greatly from building AD to maximize their sustained damage output.
Total AD is the sum of base AD and bonus AD. Base AD rises automatically when a champion levels up. Bonus AD comes from items, runes, buffs, and other external sources. Because AD stacks additively, every point directly increases the damage of both basic attacks and any abilities designed to scale with physical damage. This makes AD a flexible stat that influences laning, dueling potential, and overall DPS throughout the game.
