Definition of “Dive” in League of Legends?

A dive, often called a tower dive, is an aggressive play where a champion forces a fight under the enemy turret. Since turrets deal high and rapidly increasing damage, executing a successful dive typically requires coordination, with one player intentionally Tanking turret shots while teammates focus on securing the kill. Mismanaging the timing, aggro, or damage can quickly turn the situation into a failed attempt that gives the enemy free advantages.

Outside of turret interactions, the term dive can also describe committing deeply into a dangerous area to reach a priority target. This often happens in Teamfights, where divers bypass the enemy frontline to eliminate carries positioned in the Backline. Well executed dives disrupt the opposing team and can break open fights, but poorly timed ones leave the diver isolated with no escape.
